Communal Living

An Englishman’s Home is his Castle
, and perhaps the ultimate dream is, or used to be, to live in some kind of sanctuary where you could lock yourself away, possibly protected by walls all around, if not a moat and draw-bridge. The modern reality is very different of course with most people living in very close proximity to their neighbours, sometimes right on top of them.

The problem with all such situations of “communal living”, is how to attain that state of “sanctuary” without the walls and the draw-bridge? The answer we believe is for physical separation to be replaced by Community, where individuals are considerate to each other’s needs and respect their privacy and right to quiet enjoyment. To this end, rules and guidelines are often established to give a framework for people to live together, which if everyone subscribes to can create a happy community. A state of Harmony.
